Thermador cooktop repair in Kansas City

The star-shaped burner head is the whole idea here: flame pushed out along the points instead of ringing a circle, which spreads heat under a flat pan. ExtraLow burners deliberately cycle the flame off and relight it to hold a very low average heat.

What goes wrong with Thermador cooktops

Simmer burner that seems to keep going out
The flame disappears for several seconds, then relights with a click, over and over at the bottom of the dial. On an ExtraLow burner that is the design working. A real failure looks different: the flame stays out while the igniter ticks, pointing at the cycling valve.
Dark points on the star
Two or three arms stay unlit and the pan heats lopsided. Those channels out to the points are narrow and silt up faster than a round burner's ports. The head lifts off and each channel is cleared by hand.
Continuous sparking across the top
After a pot boils over, the cooktop clicks nonstop with every knob off. Moisture in the electrode well keeps the module seeing a call for ignition. Drying it thoroughly, sometimes overnight with the power off, clears most.
Induction surface shutting itself down
A zone cuts out under sustained high power with the fan audibly working. The large continuous induction surfaces pack a lot of electronics under the glass, so a blocked underside trips overheat protection.

Before you call

Wash the star heads by hand, never in the dishwasher, since detergent dulls the finish and drives residue deeper into those channels. Before booking a call on a cycling simmer burner, watch whether it relights.
