What goes wrong with Frigidaire freezers

The freezer warms while the compressor runs constantly. Behind the inner rear panel the evaporator is packed solid and blocking the fan. The failure is the defrost heater, the bimetal clipped to the coil, or the control that times them.

Chest freezer lid not sealing

Frost climbing the walls of a manual-defrost chest usually means the gasket has taken a set or a hinge spring is letting the lid ride high at one corner. A dollar bill pulled from under the closed lid finds the loose spot.

Clicking every few minutes, still warm

The compressor tries to start, the overload trips, and it tries again. On these cabinets the start relay and overload clip onto the compressor terminals behind the rear panel and are replaced as a matched pair.

Cabinet sides feel hot

This is normal on a Frigidaire chest freezer - the condenser tubing is bonded inside the outer skin to stop sweating. It also means the unit needs breathing room, and a tight corner makes it run far longer.

Before you call

Upright defrost parts are cheap and worth fitting at almost any age. A chest freezer that has lost its charge is a different conversation, since sealed-system work often costs more than the box is worth.
