Kenmore washing machine repair in Kansas City
Kenmore washers came out of at least three factories. A 110 is Whirlpool, a 796 is LG, a 417 is Frigidaire, and the 110s split again between the older direct-drive machines and the later vertical-modular ones.
What goes wrong with Kenmore washing machines
- Hum with no agitation
- The motor buzzes, the basket sits still, and the machine still drains. On a direct-drive 110 that is the three-piece motor coupler between the motor and the transmission, its rubber center chewed out. Cheap part, and the job is done with the cabinet tipped back.
- Shift actuator on later top-loaders
- The lid locks, water comes in, and the basket never turns - or it spins when it should be washing. The actuator that moves the drive between agitate and spin has failed, sometimes along with the rotor position sensor behind the rotor.
- 796 front-loader stopping full of water
- These are LG underneath, so the drain fault reads as an LG code and the first thing to open is the pump filter behind the lower access panel. Most owners have no idea that filter exists until we show them.
- Lid switch versus lid lock
- Older 110s use a plain mechanical lid switch that only interrupts spin. Newer ones use a motorized lock that must latch before the cycle starts at all. Same complaint from the homeowner, two different parts and two different tests.
Before you call
On an older direct-drive Kenmore, a loud hum with a motionless tub is almost always the coupler rather than the transmission, and that is worth fixing even on a twenty-year-old machine.
