Kenmore dryer repair in Kansas City
Most Kenmore dryers in this metro are 110-prefix Whirlpool builds in the familiar 29-inch cabinet, where one drum belt wraps the whole drum and a spring-loaded idler holds tension. The 796 units are LG and share none of that hardware.
What goes wrong with Kenmore dryers
- Drum turns, no heat
- On a 110 electric dryer this is the thermal fuse on the blower housing, which opens because the vent is restricted. Replacing it without clearing the duct just blows the new one. On the gas version that same fuse leaves the dryer dead.
- Thumping and scraping from the drum
- The 29-inch cabinet rides on two rear support rollers, an idler pulley, and a felt seal front and back. When the felt packs down the drum drops onto the bulkhead and starts to scrape. The belt, rollers, idler and felt go in together as one kit.
- Motor runs but the drum stands still
- The belt has snapped and slipped off the idler arm. You can hear it - the blower still pulls air while nothing tumbles. The drum comes out to route the new belt over the motor pulley and idler.
- 796 units flagging a blocked duct
- LG-built Kenmore dryers watch drying time and warn about airflow on their own display. The heater assembly and thermistor are LG parts with different resistance values, so Whirlpool test specs will mislead you here.

The 29-inch Whirlpool cabinet barely changed for decades, so if we are already inside for a belt it is worth doing the rollers and idler at the same time rather than paying a second call.
