Kenmore refrigerator repair in Kansas City
On a Kenmore the model number is the diagnosis. The digits ahead of the decimal name the builder - 106 is Whirlpool, 253 is Frigidaire, 363 is GE, 795 is LG - and those four refrigerators share almost no refrigeration parts with each other.
What goes wrong with Kenmore refrigerators
- Defrost parts ordered for the wrong builder
- A heater goes in and the coil frosts solid again a week later. The 253 cabinets carry a rod heater clipped under an aluminum evaporator; the 106 cabinets use a glass tube on a steel coil. We look at the coil before ordering.
- 795 models warm with fans still running
- Lights on, air moving, both sections drifting to room temperature. LG built these with a linear compressor and its own inverter board bolted to the back of the cabinet, so the suspect is that board or the compressor rather than a start relay.
- Warm fresh food on a 106 side-by-side
- The freezer still makes ice while the upper section climbs into the fifties. One evaporator feeds both compartments through an air damper on this chassis, so it is an iced coil or a failed evaporator fan motor, not two separate problems.
- Dead Sears part numbers
- The number stamped on the old component comes back discontinued everywhere. The original builder usually still sells the identical piece under its own number, so we cross-reference the part instead of chasing the Kenmore listing.
Before you call
Photograph the model tag before you call. It is normally on the fresh-food liner behind a crisper, and those first three digits decide which parts ride on the truck.
Pricing
$225 to $375 for fan, defrost and control work; $450 to $900 for compressor or sealed-system repairs. The $109 diagnostic is credited to the repair when you approve the written quote.
