What goes wrong with Samsung refrigerators

The fresh food side climbs into the fifties while the freezer still holds, and the fan rattles as the blade catches frost. Either the defrost sensor has quit, which often posts a 5E, or the drain below the coil froze shut and pushed meltwater back onto the fins. We thaw the coil and replace the sensor and sheathed heater.

That fan is a DC motor that reports its own speed back to the board, so the code sets when frost blocks the blade or the feedback wire opens. We clear the duct first, then replace the fan motor assembly rather than condemning the board.

Inverter compressor that never starts

Samsung drives its digital inverter compressors from a separate board on the back of the cabinet. When that board fails the condenser fan still runs and the lights work, so the unit looks alive while nothing is being pumped. Confirm it before anyone opens the sealed system.

Before you call

Vacuum the low-mounted condenser and the rear fan grille before assuming a sealed-system problem. If the coil ices again a few months after a defrost repair, the drain needs the aluminum clip that carries heater warmth down into the tube, not another thaw.
