GE and GE Profile refrigerator repair in Kansas City
GE runs defrost from the main control board on the back of the cabinet rather than a dedicated timer, and on through-the-door models it routes the dispenser water line up through the freezer door itself. That line through a cold door, and one board handling so much, is where GE refrigerators concentrate failures.
What goes wrong with GE and GE Profile refrigerators
- Dispenser gives a trickle, then nothing
- Ice still drops normally but water slows to a dribble and quits, often overnight in the coldest weeks of winter. The supply tube running through the freezer door froze solid, usually because the freezer is set colder than it needs to be. Thawing works temporarily; rerouting or insulating the tube is what holds.
- Freezer frosting up and warming
- Frost coats the freezer back panel and temperatures rise over a week or two while the compressor runs almost constantly. The defrost heater at the evaporator or the defrost circuit on the main board stopped firing. Both need testing, because condemning the board without checking the heater is a common miss.
- Water under the crisper
- A GE filter head cracked around the cartridge seat, or a cartridge cross-threaded on installation, weeps slowly into the compartment below and people blame the door seal. The head is replaceable, and the fix holds as long as the right cartridge goes back in.
Before you call
If you dispense water through the door, set the freezer no colder than the middle of its range. That freeze is temperature-dependent, and many stop recurring once the freezer is out of the single digits.
Pricing
