KitchenAid dishwasher repair in Kansas City

KitchenAid dishwashers put a stainless tub over Whirlpool's pump layout: one wash motor in the sump, and a separate diverter motor that alternates pressure between the upper and lower spray arms instead of running both at once.

What goes wrong with KitchenAid dishwashers

One rack clean, the other filthy
Because the diverter feeds the racks in turn, a stuck diverter disc or a failed diverter motor starves one level for the whole cycle. The motor sits under the sump and is reached from below with the dishwasher pulled out.
Cycles running for hours
These machines use an optical sensor in the tub to read how dirty the water is and set cycle length from it. When detergent film clouds that window, the control keeps extending the wash. Cleaning or replacing the sensor fixes it.
Grinding or humming with weak spray
The wash motor and its impeller are a single assembly in the sump, and the chopper that grinds soft food sits with it. A bearing going down sounds like a groan through the door, and cleaning suffers before the motor fully quits.
Door dropping open
A cable runs over a drum at each lower corner to hold the heavy stainless door. When one cable frays off its drum the door falls instead of gliding. Both cables and both springs get replaced as a set.

Before you call

Stop pre-rinsing dishes spotless. The soil sensor reads clean water and shortens the cycle, and a monthly run of dishwasher cleaner keeps film off that sensor window and out of the sump.
