Whirlpool dishwasher repair in Kansas City
Current Whirlpool and KitchenAid dishwashers pair the wash motor with a separate diverter motor that alternates water between the upper and lower spray arms, and they trap food in a removable filter cup under the lower arm instead of grinding it. That filter is the owner's job, which is where most poor-wash complaints start.
What goes wrong with Whirlpool dishwashers
- One rack washes clean and the other does not
- Glasses on top come out spotless while plates below stay dirty, or the reverse, with no change in noise. The diverter motor failed or its position feedback is out, so the control cannot steer water to both levels. The diverter sits under the sump and is replaced from below.
- Water standing in the bottom
- The cycle finishes with a few inches left in the sump. Either the drain pump failed, the check valve at its outlet is stuck, or the drain hose is blocked where it ties into the disposer. A new disposer with the knockout plug still in it causes this surprisingly often.
- Grit on everything and film on glassware
- The filter cup under the lower spray arm is full and has not been rinsed since installation, so debris recirculates through the wash. Spray arm holes plug with seeds and label paper too. Cleaning both fixes most of these without parts.
Before you call
Twist out the filter cup under the lower spray arm and rinse it under the tap monthly. These were engineered assuming somebody does that, and skipping it is the difference between a dishwasher that lasts and one we see yearly.
